Back at it in the trio

Greetings!  Spanish word of the day: La lonchera (lunchbox)  All is well here on the East Coast. The weather is starting to cool off in the mornings and evenings as we move into fall.  This last week we aquired a new companion. His name is Elder Curtis, he Arizonian, and still fresh hot off the MTC press.  This last week I was studying in the book of John 1:12 and 3 Nephi 9:17. There is something interesting that I want to talk about here from these two verses. Potential. What is our potential in the eyes of God? What do we think of our own potential?  Potential : something or someone that is expected to  become  or  be.  In the scriptures, there are times where it says "to become sons [and daughters] of God". It is a simple truth that we are already his children, so why say "to become" if we already are His children?  Well, if you look down into the footnotes, it says "Potential to become like Heavenly Father". Yes, we were created in H...

Here to stay...a few more at least

Good morning dearest friends and family,  Spanish word of the day: La bisagra (hinge)  I have some news...  I'll be staying here in Revere another transfer! 👏On top of that, we are getting another companionship in our apartment. And to add a little more, I'm going to be the District Leader.  We have been so incredibly busy lately, so busy in fact, we have had to cut our studies short a few times. Oops.  Here are some cool little moments from this past week: We received a referral from a lady named Sherelyn. When we were messaging, she said she was confined to an electric wheel chair with a degenerative nerve disease. That alone was a surprise. When we called her and her 9 year old daughter, it was evident that Sherelyn couldn't speak. That proved to be a small challenge. What was amazing was the entire time, she understood what we were teaching. We felt impressed to share Alma 40:32. This speaks of how our bodies will be perfected when the resurection comes. Im...

Vamos a la playa

Greetings,  I'm am currently writing this email as I'm watching flocks of seagulls meander through the shells and rocks of the washing waves.  The salty breeze running through my hair.  Now, Elder Chalk is feeding all the seagulls and we are slowing being surrounded by them. If you know me, I have a thing for seagulls 😂 This has been a nice, busy, and fulfilling week. Lots of new people taught, lots of people starting to progress.  Super sweet lesson with Manuel and his kids... In person! They are so sweet! They all want to be baptized very soon here!  Love you all! Have a wonderful week, God loves you!  con mucho amor, Elder Rasmussen

Church in person!

Buenos días,  Spanish word of the day: Sacapuntas (pencil sharpener)  Lots of good things this week.  With our recent convert Manuel, we began teaching his children this week. Up until this point on my mission, I haven't really been able to have many close interactions teaching kids. If there was one word I could use to describe what it's like teaching such innocent and pure souls, I'd say "sagrado". It's such a special experience to see the light of Christ in their eyes. One might say these ideas are too difficult and abstract to understand, but really, they understand it better than the majority of people that we teach. The words of Moroni 8:12 where it says: "But little children are alive in Christ". No wonder Christ invited us to be more like them. Humble, meek, kind, having complete trust, etc.  I invite you all to go read 3 Nephi 17. This right here is one of the most pure and beautiful moments in the Book of Mormon (in my opinion). You'll ...

There's still good in the world

Buenas tardes!  Spanish word of the day: La mofeta (skunk)  This week, we decided to grab some food from our local Pakistani kabab shop. As we were waiting for it to finish up, we met a man named Robert. He had the classic New England "harbah" accent and gray scruff on his face and neck. None the less, it was fun to get to know him. When our food was ready, he stopped us and said he'd pay for it because we spread the good word.  It makes me happy that there is still some goodness in this world. When we are praying for a miracle in our lives, often times God puts a person in the right place and time to answer our prayers. So, we should constantly be on our toes to be ready to act on a prompting to answer someone's prayers.  This past week, we had a super cool experience with this idea. We had met up with Manuel (recently baptised) to finish some paperwork. While we were talking, I had a very strong impression to suggest if he wanted a blessing of comfort. Immediately,...
