Back at it in the trio
Greetings!
Spanish word of the day: La lonchera (lunchbox)
All is well here on the East Coast. The weather is starting to cool off in the mornings and evenings as we move into fall.
This last week we aquired a new companion. His name is Elder Curtis, he Arizonian, and still fresh hot off the MTC press.
This last week I was studying in the book of John 1:12 and 3 Nephi 9:17. There is something interesting that I want to talk about here from these two verses. Potential. What is our potential in the eyes of God? What do we think of our own potential?
Potential: something or someone that is expected to become or be.
In the scriptures, there are times where it says "to become sons [and daughters] of God". It is a simple truth that we are already his children, so why say "to become" if we already are His children?
Well, if you look down into the footnotes, it says "Potential to become like Heavenly Father". Yes, we were created in His image, but, I think it is safe to say that not all of His children will want to follow the commandments or follow the Saviors example. It becomes quite clear that in order to reach our potential, we should follow the teachings of our older brother, Jesus Christ. He is the "Light and the life of the world, the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end". All that is required of us is to have faith unto action, have a broken heart and a contrite spirit, and take up our cross and follow him.
As said perfectly by a modern day prophet, Pres. Dallin H. Oaks taught, "in contrast to the institutions of the world, which teach us to know something, the gospel of Jesus Christ challenges us to become something".
I hope you know that you have SO much potential as you continue to follow the covenant path. If you have strayed off, get back on it. Use the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I love you and care about you so much!
