Small and simple

Saludo, all the way from the rainy, rainy East Coast.  Spanish word of the day:  Panda  (gang)  Got some sad news this week, our good friend Alberto decided he doesn't want to take the discussions anymore. He said that he can't get over the idea of tithing.  Some good news is that we finalized three baptismal dates. July 11th, 19th, and the 25th. Unfortunately, we can't actually attend the baptisms so we need all the help we can from the members.  I want to talk a little about conversion today.  I really love the story of Alma the younger. He was a rebellious and proud individual that spent his early days with the Sons of Mosiah trying to destroy the church. But, by the grace of God and an answer to the prayers of his family and friends, he was struck down by an angel.  We can read something very interesting about his conversion in Alma 5:46. Even after seen an angel, not being able to speak or move for a few days, feeling the feelings of a damned...

Happy Monday! Want to wish all the padres a happy (late) dad's day!  Spanish word of the day:   Bien onda/mal onda:  Good vibes/bad vibes  A little update: Humberto - Wants to be baptized, but has a few challenges with the Word of Wisdom, please pray for him!  Martha - Strong catholic beliefs, but has determined desire to learn more about the restored gospel, please also pray for her!  This week I'd like to share a little somethin' from my studies.  This is so cliche, but before the mission, I kind of took the Bible for granted. I knew it was the word of God, but I never REALLY got to know it until now.  In the 22nd chapter of Matthew, we read of the two great commandments.  1. Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind 2. Love your neighbor as you love yourself I want to focus on the "...as thyself" part. We as human beings can be very kind and loving to others, but inside we can be so awfully harsh and critical to ourselves. Why is that s...

The power within

Spanish Word of the Day  :  Mandamás  - (Big boss, head honcho, big dog)  Buena' día', e'pero que todo e'ta bien con ustede' (Dominican Spanish haha)  All is well here, a little update on our friends: Manuel -He's probably 50 years old. One of the most solid people we have ever met. We asked him to stop drinking coffee and he said he'd stop right in that moment. This guy is powerful!  Alberto  - Soft-spoken guy but knows the Bible very well, he has a very strong desire to know the truth. I want to talk about the concept of temptation.  We know that while we are on this earth, we will experience both good and evil. That is just a given about being mortal, basically all of 2 Nephi 2. Now, I genuinely think that God did not just leave us down here to be completely subject the the evils of this world. He's given us some tools to fight those enticings. We read in the Pearl of Great Price in Moses 1:10-26 of Moses (a great prophet) when he is tempted....

What is Grace?

Buenas días!  Spanish word of the day:   Guardafango  (fender/mudguard)  I hope all is well. To my understanding, there is a bit of unrest in the streets. I hope and pray that this situation can improve for this great nation that we know. I know there are a lot of people who feel abused, mistreated, and silenced on matters like these. This got me thinking: what is the universal antidote for peace, restitution, and healing? Quite simply, this antidote can be found over 2,000 years ago, at the base of a mount of olives outside the city of Jerusalem. The decision of one man, to take upon himself all of the pains, sufferings, injustices this world had to ever offer. This action of pure love, mercy, and compassion can be known as The Atonement of Jesus Christ.  I'd like to touch a little more on the real-life application of His Atonement in our lives. Grace. What even is grace? Have you felt grace? Why is it even important?  To start, grace is the  enabling...
